In 1982 Fr. Banner asked 3 young men from our school to help him build shelves in the basement of the Rectory to hold groceries for those who were coming to the Rectory looking for food. That was the beginning of the St. Patrick Hunger Center!
The need grew and over the past 39 years so has our Hunger Center. The Center moved to 4 different locations on our Parish property getting bigger and better equipped to handle the growing need.
We were Blessed to have several wonderful Directors and hundreds of outstanding Volunteers who have helped the less fortunate of our Parish over these years. The Parishioners of St. Patrick are the reason our work has been able to continue! We are the only Hunger Center in the Diocese that does not have Government assistance. You the parishioners have faithfully backed our Center with your generosity! You are the reason we still help the less fortunate! For this we are so Thankful!!
We are asking for your help again. We are in need of additional volunteers!! The Center is open to receive food requests on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The positions are as follows:
1. Phone interviewers: Take phone requests for food between 9:15 am - 11:00 am
2. Packers: Pack the non perishables between 11am - 3 pm.
3. Distributors: Pack perishables and roll carts out for pick up Monday and Wednesday 4:00pm to 4:30pm, and Friday 5:00pm to 5:30 pm
You would be scheduled no more than twice a month! If you can find it in your heart to volunteer for any of these positions it would be a great help to continue to do God's work in our neighborhood!! Please call the Hunger Center 216-251-8258 and leave your name and number and Robin or Maureen will get in touch with you! Thank you and God Bless!
If you or anyone you know is in need of food and lives within our boundaries (Lorain Ave. to the North, Brook Park Rd. to the South, W. 150 th to the East and the Valley to the West} please encourage them to call our Center 216-251-8258. They do not have to be a parishioner!
