Forty years ago Fr Russell Banner, a former priest assigned to St. Patrick realized there was a great need for assistance with food for those in our neighborhood! He then asked 3 boys from St. Patrick’s school to help him rectify this problem! Joey Garcia, Billy Mountcastle and Tommy Plisko joined Father after school as they built shelves in the basement of the Rectory to hold groceries for those who were coming looking for help! The Parishioners gladly stocked the shelves with non perishables and so began St. Patrick Hunger Center!
The need for assistance has grown greatly over the past 40 years and so has our Hunger Center. The Center has moved to 4 different locations on our Parish property getting bigger and better equipped to handle the growing need each time.
We have been Blessed with Wonderful Directors and Hundreds of Fantastic Volunteers who have helped the less fortunate of our Parish over the years. More importantly you the Parishioners of St. Patrick are the reason our work has been able to continue! We are the only Hunger Center in the Diocese that does not have Government assistance. You the parishioners have faithfully backed our Center with your generosity! Recently our neighbor parishes St. Mark’s and Our Lady of Angels have reached out to help us with food collections too! This is the reason we still can help the less fortunate! For this we are so Thankful!!
But as the years have gone by we have lost many of our volunteers. Some have passed on others have moved. They have left big shoes to fill and that's why we are asking for your help again. We are in need of additional volunteers!! If you have been looking for something to do to help others this just might be what you are looking for! If you can help 1 or 2 days a month it would be greatly appreciated!
The Center is open to receive food requests on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The positions are as follows:
