Happy Easter! It’s Angel again. I wanted to take the opportunity this weekend to share with you my favorite moment from Easter. It happened about 2:00 in the afternoon that day, when I jumped up on my grandma’s couch & saw my dad getting out of his car. I was so excited! I started calling out to him, “Where have you been?” & my little nub of a tail was wagging at about 100 wags per minute (ok, I really didn’t count). I love spending time with my grandma, but I really love when my dad comes home (whether he’s been gone for a few days or a few hours). I know him & he knows me.
Isn’t that what Jesus tells us today? Not simply that a dog in West Park recognizes someone, but that Jesus knows us. Jesus knows us at our best & at our worst. Jesus knows our joys & successes & also our failures & our weaknesses. He knows everything that there is to know about us. He knows us, often better than we know ourselves. God knows us so well that he always is leading us to what’s best for us, even though sometimes we might not realize it. I know that when I start to get hungry & I stare at my dad hoping he’ll give me my dinner early, he very rarely gives in. He makes me wait sometimes, even though I might not be very happy about it, but when I see him grab my dish & dinner finally arrives, boy is it delicious & I scarf it right down. We often have to trust too that God knows best what we need & when we need it &, as our Good Shepherd, will always lead us in a way that leads to our ultimate good. Nice to say, but tough to live out, isn’t it?
One other note that my dad wanted me to share, & that is that over the next 2 weeks, both he & Fr. Clyde will be serving jury duty. Fr. Clyde this coming week & my dad the week after. With them not knowing until the night before if they will be around the next day, there will be some adjustments to the daily Mass schedule. We will return to the regular schedule the first full week of May.
